All About Gender: Moving Beyond Binaries

The assumption is often made that people who do not fit into western gender understandings and identities are trying to change history. In truth, European colonization stripped away centuries of cultural beliefs about gender from communities all over the world. Gender is a created system that has always varied among communities and countries. Hundreds of other iterations of gender and gender identity were lost and replaced by beliefs from just a few countries of the world. This workshop will unpack the history of gender and gender identity - look at history and beliefs from around the world and demonstrate how many people are reclaiming those lost connections.
