Colors of Love

from the Wisdom of Solomon 2:23

by Kimi Floyd Reisch, 2021, adapted 2023

Queer People:

We are a gathering of diverse people, woven rainbow threads,

of all colors and spectrums of the nonbinary universe

drawn together as if a single prayer shawl,

laying upon the shoulders of those who have stood up before us to speak

and to claim the right to exist, to love, and to have dignity.

They stand with us still, their spirits nurturing the sparks within

each of us telling us to stand, to speak, and to keep

asserting our right to full equity as a part of this beautiful humanity.

We stand within a community as varied as the initials

that are often used to classify us.

Standing in this presence of fellow travelers and

accompanying committed friends

as we carry it forward.

Accompanying Committed Friends:

We are a gathering of diverse people, woven rainbow threads

drawn together as if a single prayer shawl,

laying upon the shoulders of those who have been rejected,

or harmed, broken by the world and how the world and how some;

some who claim to love in the name of their god

have treated their LGBTQIA+

children,

siblings,

parents,

family

friends.

ALL:

We do not have to speak the same languages.

We can witness different sacred truths.

We can love differently,

yet recognizing

that love is the same,

no matter the genders of those who share it.

For we not corruptible drawn to those things

created to divide us from

this universal love

in which we see images of immortality.

Accompanying Committed Friends:

We do not have to look the same,

love the same,

pray the same,

or even believe the same.

Blue uses red to shine.

Yellow reflects next to green.

Queer People:

Orange and purple.

Black and white.

Brown and pink.

Homegenia,

sameness should never be the goal.

Our diversity is holy diversity.

ALL:

We come together committing to deeper connection,

to listen more, to see and witness,

seeking compassion over conflict,

hope over hate,

joyful in intent and dismissing the false unity of sameness,

woven in the unity of the love that can only come with full equity

as part of humanity.

We belong.

We weave our many colors together

in a many-colored blanket of justice,

working together to build the beloved community,

the place of universal peace and hope

we all seek together.

Together,

we are the colors of love.
