Kicking Shame Out of Your Church

Service Description

There is no bigger obstacle to transformation than the guilt and shame cycle. Shame prevents open and empathetic conversations, and it becomes a brick wall erected between people. Has shame become rooted in how your church does church? Is it nestled in every ask for volunteer Sunday school teachers, or waiting to pounce each stewardship season? Our world teaches us to respond to shame, which means it also teaches us how to use shame to motivate specific actions in others. This workshop will dive into the manifestation of shame. It will share some of the wisdom from shame experts and offer their advice on why it is important to name shame and to eradicate it whenever we can. It will point toward a way of healing that pulls us toward wholeness, without shaming us for being wounded by the world. Healing ripples out and benefits the entire community in the same way that shame can ripple out to harm the entire community. This workshop will lead to healing, and through it new growth.
